The Australian Government has introduced the Existing Worker Traineeship Initiative to assist skill shortages within the current workforce. This initiative provides financial incentives to eligible employers enabling those employed full time or part time to undertake nationally recognized training at no cost to themselves or their employees.

When we talk traineeship, people often presume these are for persons in the age group of 16 - 21 years of age and starting out. In truth, traineeship is provided from 15 - 65 years of age and these particular traineeship have been implemented to specifically up skill existing employees.

An Existing Worker Traineeship offers opportunities for anyone of working age to train, study and earn income all at the same time. Traineeship is available in more than 500 occupations ranging from Certificate to Diploma level and provides nationally recognised quality training.

Employers or workers are not required to make any financial contributions towards the cost of training.

For each employee in a traineeship, employers will receive up to $4,000 to cover the cost of training and benefits such as:
